I made this because the red cap always pulls me in. It feels bright and a little wild. This is a handmade botanical print of the classic Amanita muscaria mushroom, based on a trusted 19th-century source. If you like calm nature scenes with one strong focus, this will fit your wall art nicely.

Why I picked this piece

I like subjects that read fast from across the room. The fly agaric has a simple shape and a bold top. It looks friendly and a bit storybook, but it is still a careful study. That mix suits my workshop and the way I build my art prints.

The picture shows Amanita muscaria with its red cap, white spots, pale gills, and sturdy stem. In the wild, this species often grows with birch and with conifers like pine and spruce. It forms a close partnership with the roots of these trees, which is why you often find it nearby.

The history in short

The look and layout follow a well known German herbal from the late 1800s called Köhler’s Medizinal-Pflanzen. It was written mainly by Hermann Adolph Köhler and edited after his death by Gustav Pabst. The publisher was Franz Eugen Köhler of Gera. The images were printed in color using chromolithography by artists such as Walther Otto Müller and C. F. Schmidt. The main volumes came out in 1887, 1890, and 1898.

Craft & finish (maker notes)

I make this botanical art print on hand-processed paper. First I burn the edges by hand. Then I add gentle gold highlights and seal the surface with a thin coat of beeswax, then set it so it keeps a soft parchment feel. Each print looks a little different. That small change from piece to piece is part of the charm.

I keep the lines sharp so the tiny details show. I aim for deep but steady color so it looks good in normal room light. Please note that colors can look slightly different from screen to screen.

How it looks at home

This subject works in many rooms. A light wood or black frame keeps it calm. It looks good near indoor plants, cookbooks, or a quiet reading chair. If you want a small gallery, pair it with one more green or red study from the same era. It is easy to fit into different home decor without taking over the whole wall.
