Thor, der Donnergott - Johannes Gehrts, 1890. (Historical Wall Art)
This print has real energy, but it still feels clean and readable on the wall. Thor fills the page with bold lines and a warm parchment look, so it works well as wall art in a study, office, or library-style home decor setup. It is the kind of image that looks strong from across the room, then gets more detailed the closer you stand.
About this art print
This image is a frontispiece from Götter und Helden der alten Germanen: Der Edda nacherzählt, a retelling of old Germanic and Norse stories by Frieda Amerlan, with illustration by Johannes Gehrts, dated 1890. A frontispiece is the opening picture of a book, meant to set the tone right away. Here, it does exactly that: it introduces Thor as a larger-than-life presence before the story even starts.
Thor is the thunder god of Norse myth, often shown with his hammer Mjöllnir, and he is said to ride in a chariot pulled by two goats. Gehrts treats Thor like the first image in a story, bold and clear, as if you are about to turn the page. That same old-print way of telling a legend in one tight scene shows up in St. George On Horseback (Albrecht Dürer, 1508.), with the hero, horse, and dragon locked into a single moment.
Craft & finish
This Thor, der Donnergott vintage art print is made on hand-processed paper, highlighted with subtle gold and sealed with beeswax for an authentic parchment feel. Please note that colors can look slightly different from screen to screen.

In case your print creases during the travel, as it usually does travel for some time, you can safely warm it up with a hair-dryer, and the wax will melt back right into it. You can also use a lighter, which is a much faster method, but be careful to keep the flame either above the paper or parallel to it (which means holding the paper vertically) so it doesn't smudge or even catch fire. The chance of the print actually creasing is very small, as they are rolled in bubble-wrap and shipped in a cardboard box. Also, be sure to keep the print out of the direct sunlight, as it can melt or fade.
