Common Oak - Köhler, 1887. (Oak Wall Art)
This print feels steady and classic. You get oak leaves, acorns, and the small labeled details laid out like a clean page from an old herbal. It works as botanical wall art in a study, kitchen, or hallway where you want calm, natural home decor.
About this print
This print shows common oak (Quercus robur, also called pedunculate oak) from Köhler’s Medizinal-Pflanzen, volume one (1887.), plate thirty. It was printed as a chromolithograph, which is why the color feels soft and layered instead of flat. The oak plate is commonly credited to Walther Müller, one of the main illustrators on the set.
Oak mattered in these old plant books because it was not just “a tree.” The bark and galls are rich in tannins, and oak bark in particular has a long history as an astringent in traditional medicine and pharmacy, often linked with skin and inflammation uses. Knowing that background makes the page feel more practical, like it was meant to be used, not only admired as art prints.
If you like this same Köhler style where one plant gets a full, labeled study, Pomegranate continues the thread with blossoms, fruit, and cutaway details that feel just as tidy on the wall.
Craft & finish
Every replica we make is individually hand-processed in our family workshop. We finish the paper with a traditional beeswax seal to give it a warm, heavy texture. Our team also adds subtle gold paint details by hand to help the artwork truly shine. To complete the look, we hand-burn the edges to give each piece the feel of a true historical artifact.
While our smaller sizes are perfect for gallery walls, our 43x61 cm Large replica is a museum-scale centerpiece. Because of the size, the hand-processing and beeswax application take much longer. This extra time and care ensures that every centimeter of the historic illustration is preserved with a rich, authentic glow.
