Human Skeleton - John Fotherby, 1729. (Gothic Wall Art)
This vintage anatomy art print shows a full standing human skeleton in a classic engraved style, with clear labels and a calm, study-like look. It has that old book feel, so it works well as wall art in an office, studio, or reading corner where you want your home decor to feel thoughtful and a little unusual.
About this art print
This piece is based on John Fotherby’s Anatomy from the years 1729. to 1730., where the skeleton is shown in clear “front view” and “back view” studies (Tab XXVIII and Tab XXIX). It’s a very practical kind of image, made to teach and explain, not to shock. That same quiet, matter-of-fact mood shows up in other older works about life and death too, like Child With Three Skulls, where the message is still serious, but the art stays controlled and precise.
Craft & finish
Every replica we make is individually hand-processed in our family workshop. We finish the paper with a traditional beeswax seal to give it a warm, heavy texture. Our team also adds subtle gold paint details by hand to help the artwork truly shine. To complete the look, we hand-burn the edges to give each piece the feel of a true historical artifact.
While our smaller sizes are perfect for gallery walls, our 43x61 cm Large replica is a museum-scale centerpiece. Because of the size, the hand-processing and beeswax application take much longer. This extra time and care ensures that every centimeter of the historic illustration is preserved with a rich, authentic glow.
